HOW WE DO IT

STEP 1: Making of the master

At No Memo, we don’t follow the rules. We make our own rules. This is why we ensure that each bead, charm and pendant is created from scratch. Yep, everything is handmade, original and completely South African. The battered finish and organic shape of our metal beads and charms are intentional. We’re unique, and we want you to be part of our signature look.
To make our products, we use three different methods :

THE ANCIENT WAX
TO COPPER PROCESS
How awesome is this process? Our artisans
sculpt our designs in a soft meltable
material and then cast the negative in
copper. This method is over 5700 years old.
We’re making old-school cool again!
THE DELICATE
SILVERSMITH PROCESS
This is where our artisans really shine!
They receive a detailed brief of what the design
should kind of look like, and then the
creative process begins.
Our artists use traditional silversmithing skills
and jewellery-making tools to craft our
completely original jewellery line.
What can we say? We’re rebels! We don’t do
things the normal way!
3D PRINTING PROCESS  Our process starts with a sketch, which
eventually becomes a 3D file in a high-end
CAD program. When we’re ready, we print
a prototype in a high heat-resistant resin.
Sounds pretty space age, right? THE SOPHISTICATED

STEP 2: The casting

THE SPIN CASTING
PROCESS

This is where it gets a bit technical. We use a rubber
mould filled with liquid metal and then using
centrifugal force (otherwise known as the power of
science) a charge is pushed through the runner so
that the metal can solidify evenly. At this point, we’re
almost done! Our jewellery piece is then put into a
tumbling barrel with stones to make the cast super
smooth and remove any leftover pieces from the
casting process. The final step is electro-plating,
where we drop the items into a metal bath to give
each of our original pieces a thin shiny coating.

STEP 3: The straps

A WORLD OF OPTIONS
AND COLOURS

We embrace the unusual, the different, which is
why we also use unique materials, like shweswhe,
Petersham ribbon, silk, leather, and suede. It gets
dyed, stitched, hand painted, cut, and knotted
according to our specifications. We use
established South African workshops and
independent artisans. Basically, we work with a
great bunch of talented and awesome people.

STEP 4: The final assembling

WHERE THE
MAGIC HAPPENS

Now comes the most exciting part, where a
creative idea becomes an actual piece of
jewellery. We decide on sizing, colours,
assembling solutions and many other tiny
decisions that make it ’work’. To make sure
you’re getting a quality product, we all wear
the new design to test the look and the
comfort. After a few final tweaks, spec
sheets are written and the item goes into
production.
